Natural Allergy Remedies

Food
  • Foods high in alphalinolenic acid (ALA-an omega 3 fatty acid found in flaxseed, fish oil and walnuts)
  • Probiotics (yogurt containing live cultures or supplement like acidophilus)
Irrigation
  • Irrigate the nose twice daily for three to six weeks, use one teaspoon or noniodized table salt per pint of lukewarm water. A pinch of baking soda can squelch the burn.
Herbs
  • Butterbur-Petasines, the active chemicals in butterbur have shown to help allergies. When buying look for the phrase "PA-free" it means the dangerous ingredient was removed during processing. If allergic to ragweed may worsen symptoms.
  • Quercetin-A flavonoid found in red wine, onions, and grapefruit, the quercetin inhibits the body's release of histamines. Take 250milligrams three times a day paired with 1000mg of vitamin C it a potent natural antihistamine.
  • Stingin Nettle-The leaves house histamine, take 300mg of freeze dried nettle leaf 2-4 daily.
Homeopathy
  • Tray Boiron's Sabadil or Hylands Seasonal Allergy Relief, they combine anti-allergy agents, such as Nux vomica (poison nut) , Allium cepa (raw onion) and euphrasia (eyebright).
Ayurveda
  • Triphala-A blend of 3 key ayurvedic herbs: amalaki, bibhitaki, and haritaki found at natural foods stores or Indian market. (Aller-7 if a good brand)
